Prayer is an essential part of the Christian life. We must talk with God if we truly have a relationship with Him.
After this manner therefore pray ye:
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Matthew 6:9–14 (KJV)
Jesus regularly emphasized the importance of prayer in His earthly ministry. He not only gave us a beautiful example of how we should pray in the Lord's Prayer, but He repeatedly demonstrated the prayer life Christians must strive to emulate.
Whether in the garden, at the crucifixion, the 'High Priestly Prayer' before His ascension, or any of the other numerous times we see Christ pray, He shows us by example what prayer looks like. God uses our prayer life as one of the principal means of conforming us to the image of Christ.
Remember the admonition Charles H. Spurgeon gave us in his first published sermon, "If you are living without prayer, you are living without Christ."
Let us all focus on the importance of prayer this day, and purpose to pray.
